parque de las iguanas

One of the main tourist attractions in Guayaquil, Ecuador is Seminario or Simon Bolivar park, or Parque de las Iguanas, as it is colloquially known. Located in the heart of downtown Guayaquil, in front of a cathedral, the dozens of iguanas (and the free admission) entice tourists and locals alike to visit the park.

These reptiles are harmless and lazy. However, there was a fellow on a bench who would occasionally throw a banana on the sidewalk and they would come scurrying from all over the park - which can be quite the startling experience when you're standing in the middle of it.

  2. OMG. I hate them. Mini-dinosaurs are terrifying.

And Alex should be careful. Personally, I'd avoid the handy-J from an iguana.

  5. I love the last picture; it's great! The iguanas look cool and would definitely be worth seeing, but I think I prefer the sloths. I'm just not a reptile girl, I guess.

My family and I went to the Virgin Island when I was in middle school and ventured to a place right off the coast called "Iguana Island". We were told to bring bananas for the Iguanas. I happened to be wearing yellow nail polish on my toes... As soon as we got off the boat an Iguana ran up to me. We were all like awww look at him... then he bite my toe and ran away. I was freaked out, being that I was about 12. The tour guide said he thought my toe was a banana. This post brings back memories.... :)

  19. isadora gometti - No, we didn't visit Brazil. We were going to go through South America but decided to skip it (due to the mudslides) - we'll make sure we go back though!

Ariel / Maddy - We didn't post them, but there's about 5 pictures of me running away from them.

Brianne - That is an awesome story. I hope you learned your lesson about wearing yellow nail polish.
