the city of brotherly love • 15 comments • Sometimes being a perpetual tourist is a strange thing. Find a landmark, pose, take a picture, and repeat. If you're sick of looking at photos of us, trust us, we know the feeling. Having said that, we do love going back, looking at our past trips and reminiscing. These snapshots serve as a visual aid to jog our memories. On the day we found this LOVE sculpture, we were hot, sweaty, and tired and couldn't be bothered to get all posey posey. So, here are some pictures of some other tourists: They did a better job of posing than we would have anyway. Have a LOVE-ly weekend. (Cue the sad trombone!)
parque de las iguanas • 20 comments • One of the main tourist attractions in Guayaquil, Ecuador is Seminario or Simon Bolivar park, or Parque de las Iguanas, as it is colloquially known. Located in the heart of downtown Guayaquil, in front of a cathedral, the dozens of iguanas (and the free admission) entice tourists and locals alike to visit the park. These reptiles are harmless and lazy. However, there was a fellow on a bench who would occasionally throw a banana on the sidewalk and they would come scurrying from all over the park - which can be quite the startling experience when you're standing in the middle of it.
parque méxico • 5 comments • Born out of a dog racing track, the only remnant of this in El Parque México are the dogs. The park has become a trendy place for the residents of Condessa to come and walk their dogs, stroll with their families, grab a snack, or catch whoever is performing at the open-air amphitheater. We went on a Sunday and happened to see a youth performance of the Nutcracker at the amphitheater. As soon as Alex walked by this stand, he immediately had to buy what they were selling. Duritos or chicharrones de harina (we're not 100% sure what they're called in Mexico City) are wheel shaped flour snacks, served with lemon juice and hot sauce. Alex had tried them once as a child and found them years later at a store in Winnipeg (labeled "Fry 'Ems Far Far"). Best 10 pesos spent so far! We're not too sure what was happening here: ...but we're going to conclude that this man spent his week fabricating a dog bone piñata for reasons unknown. The weather is fantastic in Mexico and we've been going out on long walks on a daily basis. Mexico City is very walkable, you need only watch out for uneven pavement and the occasional pocket of foul odor.
