isabela • 8 comments • The gorgeous views on Isabela Island made the guided tour more bearable. The tour operators were kind enough to let us explore on our own for awhile. Volcanic rock, nesting iguanas, cacti, and coral were abundant and the scenery allowed us to enjoy the walk on an overcast day.
lunchtime companions • 14 comments • These critters kept our minds off the terrible meal. "Chicken in a wine reduction served with herbed potatoes and vegetables" apparently translates to chicken doused in ketchup, undercooked potatoes, and one broccoli floret.
bahia tortuga • 11 comments • In stark contrast to the black sand of Playa Negra, this beach had the whitest sand. Although the beach is named after the turtles that allegedly frequent it, we didn't see any. If you're sick of iguanas after our last post about them, read no further because these marine iguanas are bigger and more 'dinosaur-y'.
parque de las iguanas • 20 comments • One of the main tourist attractions in Guayaquil, Ecuador is Seminario or Simon Bolivar park, or Parque de las Iguanas, as it is colloquially known. Located in the heart of downtown Guayaquil, in front of a cathedral, the dozens of iguanas (and the free admission) entice tourists and locals alike to visit the park. These reptiles are harmless and lazy. However, there was a fellow on a bench who would occasionally throw a banana on the sidewalk and they would come scurrying from all over the park - which can be quite the startling experience when you're standing in the middle of it.
