Road to Hana // Part I
• 10 comments •Each twist and turn along the Road to Hana offers the potential of adventure and awe. Some stops are obvious, and have a constant stream of tourists, others can be treacherous and frequented mostly by locals. We were excited to try a (allegedly well marked) hike off the beaten path that promised amazing views of a normally overlooked waterfall.
We drove back and forth a few times until we eventually parked at what we believed to be the trailhead. Upon entering the path, we quickly realized that our definition of “well marked” did not match the jungle that surrounded us.
After climbing over and under logs, sliding on wet rocks, and stumbling upon a swimming hole, we came to the conclusion that we were not on the hike we expected... even if we did come across a waterfall. We ran back to our car with a ridiculous amount of mosquitos in pursuit. - Alex

Did you guys get sick on the road to hana? I couldn't handle it and had to turn back. Love these shots!
ReplyDeleteThankfully, no! There were certain times where I felt mildly queasy but Alex drove pretty cautiously, so it wasn't too bad.
DeleteSo gorgeous and lush! All of your photos make me want to go to Hawaii even more than I already wanted to. :)
ReplyDeleteSo exciting to be off the beaten path not to mention utterly beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBeaaautiful! Very cool photos :)
ReplyDeleteYou photos and stories from your Hawaiian adventure are beautiful :-) How long did you actually stay there?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sheena! We were there for a few weeks. I've been so slow with getting the photos up here though :/ Better late than never?
DeleteSo you would need at least a few weeks to fully explore and get the feeling of Hawaii - or what would you say? .. Haha Mina, yeah i know! Sometimes it is just difficult to keep up with the blog posts. But as you say, as long as they get out there, it is okay :)
DeleteWe spent a week in Oahu and a week in Maui. We had such a good time, but missed a bunch of things. We spent a lot of time on beaches / in the water. It depends on the person and which islands you visit. If you're interested, we found the book "Maui Revealed" by Andrew Doughty very helpful.
DeleteGreat Mina, thanks for the tip! Okay enough with the smalltalking - I might come back to you when I actually will go to Hawaii :) (Ps. sorry if this is a double post)..
