While we were in Cairo, Chili's was the #1 rated restaurant on tripadvisor.
We've never seen as many cats as we had in Cairo.
This taxi belonged to a grizzled old Egyptian cab driver.
We thought it was kind of hilarious.
We felt so sorry for all the poor camels that were being treated so badly.
The City Stars Mall was stunning and open until midnight!
Perfumes galore.
Beautiful architecture.
After a busy day, we could count on this girl to be playing some Frank Sinatra tunes in the lobby of our hotel - a brief reprieve from the "theme song" of honking horns in Cairo.

Fascinating photos!
ReplyDeletewow i can't believe chili's is the #1 rated restaurant...kind of funny! it makes me sad to see all the strays y'all are finding there...also hearing that the camels are treated badly, that's unfortunate. looks like you had a good sanctuary though when you got back to the hotel :)
ReplyDeletewow and again i say WOW
ReplyDeletelove the camel mug shot!
haha yup, that pretty much sums up cairo! crazy taxi drivers, trash everywhere, crazy cats, and funny camels! did you go visit trash city? that's the one place i didn't go that i wish i had!! kinda stinky - literally haah!

ReplyDeletePoor old camels!
ReplyDeleteBig difference between the hotel/mall pictures and the outdoor/street pictures.
ReplyDeleteI'm assuming they go out of their way to make the tourist-y joints more presentable?
stephanie - it WAS when we were there. i don't think it is anymore though!
ReplyDeleteSandy a la Mode - No!! I think we had seen enough trash for a lifetime already. I am just scared thinking about trash city.
Space astronomy - Definitely. I think a lot of places in the world do that though.
Great disparity between the classy and the trashy. I like it! That first pic is such a fantastic capture.
ReplyDeletewow, I love those bottles and the picture with the license plate, so cool!
ReplyDeleteCairo looks a bit crazy...and dirty. Where did you stay?
ReplyDeletemelanie lace - it was crazy.... and dirty is an understatement!! we stayed at the barcelo pyramids hotel. the lobby makes it look a lot nicer than it actually was.
ReplyDeleteThese pictures are incredible!!! I want to go to Egypt so badly.
