goodbye • 32 comments • Who doesn't like the novelty of staying at hotels? We've always loved to travel and hope it won't be too difficult to adjust to the new nomadic lifestyle. Having said that, it would have definitely been more convenient, for the both of us, to deal with the surgery and hospital visits if we still had a home. We left in a rush, and never really got to say goodbye. The two of us had owned our house, together, for 4 years. Neither of us was crazy about the place. The layout, the wood, design, and wasted space were things we weren't ever fond of, but it was a home we made together and were sad to leave it. These are some photos we took while we were there, some old... some taken for the sale of it. We took our walk-in closet for granted. It's going to be quite the adjustment to go from over 60 sq. ft of closet space to a back pack. Considering all the scuzzy bathrooms we will most likely encounter during our travels, the ensuite will be sorely missed. Lament. We've said it before... bye house. it's been real, peace out.
homeless • 12 comments • The buyer's possession date for our home was this morning at 9am. We pulled an all-nighter to get all the items into storage, off to charity, or packed for the trip. It was rough - but we got everything out by 8am (cutting it close!) and slept until 2pm. One of our good friends hung out all night with us while we moved. He was so amazing and we can't thank him enough. Our storage unit was packed. So... we did it! Everything (except the car) was either given away, stored or sold. The snow was gone when we came back from LA. We took a look at our multi-coloured yard one last time: Because we still have a vehicle, our plans have changed (again): ROAD TRIP! We'll still fly down to Mexico after we ditch the car, but we're going to see a little more of the U.S. and Canada first. We're tired right now but so incredibly excited about what's to come.

We will miss your sandwiches, your 'homemade' strawberry jam, your eclectic mix of patrons, and we will especially miss your all day breakfast.

it's official! • 23 comments • All the conditions the offer have been met, so the house is definitely sold now! It's a particularly exciting day for me; I quit my job of four years. I handed in my two weeks notice to my boss today. Although there were some interesting projects and problems to solve at work, I'm very excited to now be moving forward with our plans. The possession date for our house is October 28th so we're hoping to start our voyage the next day. -Alex
a-maze-in' corn • 25 comments • Some more pictures from just outside the perimeter of the city: A confession: we didn't actually make it through the maze. We were being eaten alive by mosquitoes and didn't really even make any sort of attempt to navigate through to the end. The exit picture was completely staged.
the forks • 11 comments • The Forks would probably be considered the primary 'tourist attraction' in Winnipeg and we use that term loosely. We are not sure if it actually attracts any tourists - but if you're visiting family/friends here they'll force you to go there. We decided to spend the afternoon there one last time. The skatepark was particularly busy when we walked by. Apparently this is one of the largest skate parks in the country. Tony Hawk filmed some scenes for a movie here a few years ago. We can't believe fall is approaching so quickly. As long as we don't have to be here for another Winnipeg winter, we'll be content.
things we'll miss - backyard lounging • 12 comments • I built this deck 2 years ago - and it's still together! We've enjoyed many BBQ meals on it. We're going to have to make sure we put our feet up and relax one last time before we move. - Alex
u of m • 14 comments • We visited our alma mater to put up some posters. We decided to wander around one last time... The tunnels came in handy during the winter. You basically don't have to go outdoors except when you're arriving or leaving for the day, which is convenient given that Winnipeg is known for it's -45 Celsius (-49 Fahrenheit) days.
