sequoia
• 11 comments •After our walk around the Nile, we made our way to the end of Zamalek island to the Nile-side hotspot, Sequoia. This tented, open-concept restaurant is one of those places that everyone told us we had to try. Getting there was ridiculous; Google maps in Cairo can be very challenging. So, when we encountered a hiccup, we made the mistake of trusting an Egyptian man with one tooth for directions. He pointed us the opposite way when we were just a few steps away from the restaurant and it took us forever to get there.
We've already raved enough about Egyptian food - and we ordered several of the same dishes that we ordered at Mena House Oberoi. The meal didn't disappoint, however, we're sure you could find a less pricey place that has equally good food. You really are paying for the view... and it was a very pretty one.

ReplyDeleteWow you make it look so glamorous! I remember it being kind of gross with lots of floating trash and a dead mule...that restaurant looks awesome though!
ReplyDeleteLove your diary and stories. Please continue.
ReplyDeletelovely.
ReplyDeleteMariel Torres - Thanks!
ReplyDeleteRebecca Yale - I think it was just too dark to see how disgusting the Nile actually was. We were lucky that we didn't see any dead animals though. Sick!
glad to hear that there were no dead animals in sight! I loved your stories by the pyramids, I think everyone has a funny/horrible story from there that can be told for years to come with pride/laughter! Excited to see what's next!

ReplyDeletewow. that reflection of the boat on the water is gorgeous. yes. pacaya is definitely on the list. i just looked back at your photos of it, and i got even more excited.
ReplyDeleteSequoia is one of the places that students from AUC go on special occassions..birthdays, celebrating the end of finals, etc. It's a shame it's so expensive because it's one of the few places in Cairo you can get beer AND shisha in the same place! Glad yall made it there though..it's definitely a must!
