wanderlist - a list to inspire wanderlust
• 42 comments •
We're inspired by John Goddard who, at 15, wrote a list of 127 goals to accomplish during his lifetime. Although we're not interested in making a 'bucket list' at this time, we thought that a 'wanderlist', a list to inspire wanderlust, would be more appropriate. These are all things that we hope to accomplish during our travels.
Our list, in no particular order, is:
1. Learn to Scuba Dive
2. Climb Mount Kilimanjaro4. Visit all 7 continents5. Skydive6. Drive around a country in a campervan7. Sing Karaoke in Japan8. Learn 'Hello' in as many languages as possible9. Take Dance Lessons11.Volunteer Abroad12. Study Yoga in an Ashram13. Whitewater Rafting14. Ride an Elephant*17. Hike the Inca Trail up to Machu Picchu19.Learn to Surf(sort of...)
20. Attend Burning Man21. Be an extra in a Bollywood movie22.Eat an insect(by accident while eating dates. GROSS)
23. Go Zorbing26. Learn to ride motorcycle27. Go Sailing
28. Swim with dolphins29.Explore a cave30. Run a Marathon in another country
31.Climb a volcano
32.See one of the remaining Beatles live
33.Go Zip-lining
34. Volunteer with the Let's Colour Project (thanks Katie!)
*We've seen several travel photos of people riding elephants and it looks like fun. However, elephants at some tourist destinations are treated quite cruelly. We would like to make sure that we don't indirectly contribute to animal abuse, and would rather support an organization that promotes conservation or forgo the experience completely. Any recommendations?
Speaking of suggestions, we'd like you to tell us what you think we should add to our list. If your idea makes it onto our list we will send you a postcard during our travels.

Your blogs lovely!
ReplyDeleteOooh I've wanted to go whitewater rafting ever since I read a book about it a few years ago!
ReplyDeleteIf I had a list like yours I might add doing a zip line, washing an elephant (something my cousin recently did in Thailand), and trying chocolate from each place I traveled.
Best of luck to the both of you!!
I too want to learn scuba diving :) and to join a huge choreographed dance !
ReplyDeleteSO amazing you wrote down a list, really meaningful :)
Ohhh, you should go to Sky diving too and also to visit Singapore for yummy local food <3
Fun fun list!!!
ReplyDeleteHere are my ideas:
*Sleep in a capsule hotel in Japan (if you haven't done it already last time you went)
*Attend a Full Moon party in Thailand (okay, okay, I know it's not a huge achievement, but it's sooo much fun!)
Another!
ReplyDelete*Go to a concert, or outdoors music festival, in any country!
(Can you tell I reaaaally want a post card??!!) Haha.
I am so happy that you found my blog bc it brought me here. I love this place.
ReplyDeleteand, I love your list. we make these lists all the time and it seems to be getting longer and longer and longer...
regarding elephant rides, we went to a wonderful and humane camp in chaing mai, thailand. the elephants are wonderfully cared for...we felt the same concern when we wanted to visit an elephant camp...I didn't want to forget to tell you but I can circle back when I remember the actual name of the camp we visited...I know I saved the info. :)
oh my gosh this is great. i might have to do it too!
ReplyDeleteThe Galapagos Islands are the most incredible living museum of evolutionary changes, with a huge variety of exotic species (birds, land animals, plants) and landscapes not seen anywhere else.
ReplyDeletei went zorbing in new zealand. very odd but fun, and definitely worth a go.
ReplyDeleteYour adventure is going to be so awesome! I can't wait to live vicariously through you.
ReplyDeletemy friend just got back from walking the pilgrimage in spain. it was definitely a worthwhile experience!

ReplyDeleteThis is a fantastic list. Thanks for the compliment, Mina! I love your name.
ReplyDeleteI think you should...
ReplyDeletefree climb the limestone karsts (if you fall, its only into the water below) in Halong Bay, Vietnam... then go pick out your live seafood from a "Floating Restaurant" and have some awesome crab and mollusks cooked on the spot.
Great list! Can't wait to see your adventures.
ReplyDeletedo you want to swap lives for a day? yours is so adventurous--and i mean the literal definition of adventurous. you are amazing! love the list. you will have to post everytime you check one off. my family scuba dives...alot. they are in a scuba club thing and they travel every summer to the dreamiest of places and dive their oceans. im too scared to try...
ReplyDeleteYou guys seem to have so much fun! I love it! The lust list is fantastic... when I went to italy I rented a boat in Sorrento for $100 and drove it to Capri. We anchored it and met an Italian group of people our age that we ended up spending the next 2 days with. Best and most random thing I've ever done. They don't even ask for ID, or if you have experience with a boat (although I suggest it). have fun! and congrats on the house!
ReplyDeleteFANTASTIC WISH LIST!!
ReplyDeleteIf you go to Indonesia then there is the most wonderful Elephant Park in Taro on the island of Bali. I went there last May and it was incredibly special to be able to feed, touch and ride the elephants. All of the elephants there are rescued from terrible conditions on other Indonesian islands - for more information read this article. The website for the elephant park is here.
Bali is the most wonderful place! I can't recommend it enough!

most of asia is known for banana pancakes, the best ones are in Penang, they're more of a crepe parcel. If you make it to Western Australia you should definately go swimming with a whale shark off the Ningaloo coast in the North West.
ReplyDeleteI should recommend you to visit Perito Moreno Glacier in Patagonia, Argentina, the most beautiful place I've ever been and if you go to Japan don't forget to visit Okinawa, definitely worth a go.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck!
I'm afraid to do that kind of list...and ehat about if at the end I don't do all the things?
ReplyDeleteYou should probably "try a particular food of the place in every place you stay and publish it!
For example if you come to italy would be spaghetti or pizza or I don't know...Or if you go to Thai it wuould be some insect!...
postcard for me?
oh my WOW!!! You guys are totally amazing!
ReplyDeleteoh no, i want to think of something really creative for your list so i can get a post card! i'm going to have to ponder on this...
ReplyDeletei think you are very brace to put shark cage diving on your list, i don't think i would ever do that. my favorite in drive around a country in a campervan, my friends and i keep trying to plan this and always fail.
mina mina,
ReplyDeleteWhere is boston on your list?! I am very disappointed... :)
I think your list sounds dreamy.
I keep trying to get David to participate in a choreographed dance but no such luck. Maybe one of these days when I can steal him away from classes.
i'd be happy trying any of those suggestions right now rather than what i'm doing (bored at work!)
ReplyDeleteOh, your list is amazing. I hope you get to check them all off, and have the most amazing journey along the way.
ReplyDeleteHi Mina! Thanks for your comment at Blogtrotter, which is trying to have fun in the Turkish Riviera. Enjoy and have a marvellous weekend!
ReplyDeleteTake a Train ride!!! Even better if you can go on an overnight train ride. or go on a zip line.
ReplyDeletethis list definitely inspires my wanderslust....
ReplyDeleteunfortunately i am not able to do any travel soon.
What a fantastic wander-list! I've always wanted to be an extra in a Bollywood movie, too- especially in one of those dance numbers {if only my uncoordinated self would cooperate}. I can't wait to see the pictures from your trip. I'm super jealous already!
ReplyDeleteps: the longest cave system in the world is in my home state of Kentucky. ;)
gambling in moscow?
ReplyDeletecross country skiing in beautiful norway?
just no skydiving... scaries. none of my friends are allowed to do it. haha.
Wow, your list is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThere's a small surprise for you over on my blog...
I want to do all of these things. Bears make me laugh too. Also, I just signed up for couchsurfing and some 57 year old man already asked if he could sleep on my couch. It just made me laugh. lets go zorb in new zealand.
ReplyDeleteConsider me inspired. Time to go on a trip! You guys are the coolest and one day, when I'm married, I might copy you.
ReplyDeleteMina and Alex,
ReplyDeleteWe are off to New Zealand on our honeymoon. We have the campervan rented and have a loose itinerary planned(we may stop to Zorb...)! Check the blog if you are interested, we will post on the highlights after we are back...
i love this idea so much that i did it myself! www.gratefulsparrow.blogspot.com just wanted to let you know you've inspired someone to think bigger!
ReplyDeleteHi kids. As you know I JUST started reading your blog. I see you had many travels to Europe in the past pre this blog. Did you ever go to Greece?! I would put Santorini on your wander list item. Something like a) visit the red sand beaches on the Greek isle of Santorini or b) Hike the Volcano in Santorini.
ReplyDeleteI'm SO glad you have scuba diving at number one and Couchsurfing on there too!
ReplyDeleteIf you try scuba diving, try learning in Thailand or Indonesia. They're both so warm, and beautiful, and you have the chance to see some amazing rare creatures (whale sharks, manta rays, wrasses, etc.)
In 5 years, I'll be quitting my job to travel again. I spent last year being a solo nomad, came back home, and had the travel bug so bad that I had to postpone law school. I'll be hitting the road shortly though, just need to raise some funds :) Can't wait to see where your adventures take you!
OH! You can also try Hospitality Club (it's like CS but even more down to earth hosters).
As far as elephant riding goes, I passed up the chance in Thailand and Laos because it's a very touristic thing to do. There's a decent place in Pai, Thailand that a few people I know did but I don't have personal experience from it.
What a great list!
ReplyDeleteForget about booking a hotel or hostels, go Manga cafe hopping in Tokyo or Kyoto - its awesome fun xx
ReplyDeletelove your list, i really want to try Couch Surfing too! :)
