grand place

Remember when we visited the Zocalo in Mexico City? Brussels has a similar city square called the Grand Place or Grote Markt. The Grand Place plays host to a variety of events and celebrations throughout the year, but we only saw wandering tourists.
The architecture is, like Belgium itself, a mixture of European influences. Thanks to restoration work, you really do feel like the buildings have been frozen in time.
The centerpiece of the square is the town hall. Since it was getting late we weren't able to explore the building itself, but we snapped a few photos before heading home for the night.

Soooo gorgeous!! I want to go here!
ReplyDeleteOMG, so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it incredible they made these buildings without the aid of cranes and heavy-machinery? Makes me wonder why all the buildings in Toronto are so ugly. You'd think technology would allow us to make nicer things, if this is what was done with the brute strength of men.
Looks absolutely incredible!
