home sweet home • 10 comments • Selling real estate in Montreal was much more stressful and difficult than selling in Winnipeg. The politics in Quebec are embarrassing, to say the least, and many people were apprehensive about buying. The law is different than the rest of Canada, and by different, I mean unnecessarily complicated. I had two offers fall through and thought I'd never get out of there. Ultimately, things worked out well. I cried when I left Winnipeg and thought I would be equally emotional when leaving Montreal. I was mostly just relieved. Besides some great friends we made there, what I'll miss the most is our home. It certainly wasn't our dream home but we made it as cozy as we could. I can't complain about anything though. Alex and I are so grateful and happy to be reunited for good. Our time apart was longer than anticipated and it was tough. At first, we were both so busy that the time flew by, but the last few months dragged. While there were plenty of good things that came out of being on opposite sides of the continent, we've vowed never to attempt it ever again. One of my favourite things about traveling is coming home. You have a newfound appreciation for it as well as a realization of what it's lacking - to either incorporate it or strive toward it. We tried the nomadic lifestyle and it wasn't for us. We'll never stop traveling but nothing beats coming home to your own bed. - Mina
Happy Hallowe'en! • 13 comments • We arrived in Chicago late last night. We're going to spend a day sightseeing before we continue on. We'll fill you in on the details of the drive/trip when we have settled in Toronto. In the meantime, since it's Hallowe'en, here are more old pictures of us, carving pumpkins and handing out candy (something we can't do now that's we're homeless):
a matter of time... • 18 comments • Guess what? We got an offer on the house and we accepted it! It's still subject to financing, but we're confident that it'll be official by next week. This is a huge relief to us. In the past few weeks we've had to reject other offers for various reasons, which was incredibly stressful. Showing the house to "Sunday shoppers" wasn't fun either. It seems like all that frustration is finally over. Now we can focus on sorting out the last few details for our wedding, selling remaining possessions, and planning our departure. The hardest part is finally over!
so, this is a travelogue? • 13 comments • Our apologies to everyone who is tired of hearing about Winnipeg. Trip planning is kind of difficult to do when you are trying to sell a house. The details are dull. We're pleased with our decision of selling privately. We don't want to jinx anything, but are apprehensively waiting for news. Some (hopefully, good) news that means we can share more about how our plans have been progressing.
things we'll miss - backyard lounging • 12 comments • I built this deck 2 years ago - and it's still together! We've enjoyed many BBQ meals on it. We're going to have to make sure we put our feet up and relax one last time before we move. - Alex
