around portland • 7 comments • Portland Dry Goods | This store full of guy's clothes and accessories is nearby the waterfront and one that I'd expect to see in the other Portland. Fisherman's Grill | After trying the brown butter lobster roll at Eventide, we were craving a classic one. We looked up the best seafood restaurant in Portland and our phone told us it was Fisherman's Grill. This unassuming take-out restaurant only has a few seats which we somehow managed to secure while waiting in the long line. I ordered the small roll while Alex went with the large - same sized bun, but more lobster. They were perfect. Vervacious | Founded by a husband and wife team, Vervacious carries gourmet balsamic vinegars and spices. The couple sailed around the world and were inspired by their culinary adventures in Italy. The spiced balsamic reduction was my favourite purchase and it pairs well with roasted brussel sprouts or sweet potatoes. Fences of Love | Along the harbour, on Commercial St., you'll find this "installation" - similar to the one on the Seine. We saved our lock for Paris. Portland Lobster Company | While waiting for your food, you'll get a cute little plastic lobster that lights up and buzzes when your food is ready. We didn't have a full meal here but we hung out on the dock and enjoyed a crab cake as our last meal in Portland.
portland head light • 10 comments • You can't visit Maine without going to see a lighthouse so we went to the Portland Head Light in Cape Elizabeth. Our water quickly ran out in the mid-summer heat but luckily there was a stand nearby selling blueberry sodas. We sat and watched the tides and the sailboats for awhile and chatted with a man who was selling his oil paintings of Maine. He was really friendly, told me about his tattoos, and said "I probably broke your camera" when I took a photo of his face. I picked up one of his prints to hang in my home so that I'll be reminded of this trip whenever I pass by it.
fort allen park • 11 comments • Arriving in Portland in the evening meant that we got to take a sunset walk, in Fort Allen Park, by the harbour. Afterward, we grabbed a late dinner at Eventide Oyster Co. Their brown butter lobster roll was delicious but I'd skip the chowder if I went again. There was a bit of a wait, which meant we were able to explore downtown which was filled with people and live music on that warm Saturday night.
